StarRo remixes Heavy Star Movin’, dives into Tokyo’s Rock scene on Beats1 Radio
Japanese producer starRo combines chopped up jazzy breaks with chilled electronics that really accentuate the Wayne Coyne/Steven Drozd song’s dream-like qualities. TSLC musical director Mikey Wells says of the mix, “I love the total liberty and creativity taken in the starRO remix. It takes the inherent spacey, trippy vibe of the original track and totally reinvents it.”

Recently this week on his Beats1 residency, StarRo crashes Tokyo’s Rock music scene. He showcases a live performance and chat with actor, singer, and guitarist MIYAVI then rocks-out with heavy metal sensation Baby Metal, plus catches up with the new generation of rockstar bands, Toe and Alfred Beach Sandal, and much more.
MIYAVI talks current rock music in Japan
“It’s really interesting to see Babymetal. Im not sure if they are rock or metal. It’s pretty innovative. Ryuichi Sakamato just did the score for The Revenant. He’s a rocker, and also an innovator. I really really respect him.
On working with director Angelina Jolie
“Angie is a strong woman with a mission. It’s really really intense. Her mind her will, but it’s a great experience working with her as a musician and an artist. There’s a similarity between acting and performing on stage. It’s all about emotion.”
