Rainforest World Music Festival 2014
KUALA LUMPUR, 20 JUNE 2014 – This June, Heineken leaves the city and returns to the Rainforest World Music Festival. Entering its 17th year of production, the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is definitely the place to be for a worldly musical experience of impressive proportions. Laced with culture and heritage, the setting provides a unique platform for renowned musicians from Asia, Europe, Africa and America to showcase their distinctively embellished traditional tunes.
Set to take place from June 20 to 22, the RWMF will feature afternoon workshops, ethno-musical lectures, jamming sessions and mini concerts before the evening performances on the main stage.
“Our close working relationship with the RWMF allows us to open the worlds of our consumers to new experiences, the kind that they can bring back to the city and share with their friends,” said Jessie Chuah, Marketing Manager of Heineken Malaysia.
The distinctive nature of the ambiance inspired Heineken to continue the pledge to keep the rainforest green. Recycling bins have been set up throughout festival grounds, enabling festivalgoers to dispose of empty Heineken cans easily, ensuring public areas remain clean, safe and green.
Similar to last year, Heineken’s guests and media will be greeted by the Heinekabana. This lakeside retreat is the best place to relax and chill while they refresh themselves with an ice cold Heineken beer.
World Music Acts
The line-up is nothing short of impressive with popular acts like UK’s Blackbeard’s Tea Party famous for their funky folk tunes, swashbuckling songs and infectious stage energy. Italy’s leading and longest-standing traditional music ensemble Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino will also be performing. Included on the playlist is Ukrainian “ethnic chaos” band DakhaBrakha, From Singapore, we have Ding Yi Music Company—a band that has been recognised as the most prodigious Chinese chamber music group. Award-winning Canadian Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys, who will serve up old-time roots music with an energy level that practically yanks fans out of their seats by the collar.
Expect a unique performance by Horomona Horo, a Maori musician who has fused the traditional instruments of Taonga puoro (literally translated as “singing treasures”) within a diverse range of cultural and musical forms. Look out also for Japanese group Ryuz, Spanish group Kalakan, and Tanzanian musicians known as Jagwa Music. All these performances correlate with the main objective of the festival which is to display some of the world’s diverseness through music that has become the essence over its illustrious history.
The RWMF has become an annual retreat to many because of the different festival vibe and atmosphere it offers. This makes it a perfect getaway from the city. Be sure to make the most of your weekend with Heineken at the Rainforest World Music Festival.
