These days Techno is quite popular among people of varying ages. Many like to dance to it but quite often they lack the knowledge of how it even came to be!
Just what exactly is Techno??
Techno is a sub-genre of Electronic Dance Music or EDM. It emerged in Detroit, Michigan in the mid-1980. The word ‘techno’ was attributed to it first in 1988. Detroit techno is regarded as the foundation but several sub-genres like acid techno, ambient techno, dub techno etc. exist under it. The form mainly evolved through the amalgamation of several African American music styles like Chicago house, electro, electrical jazz and fun along with electronic music.
With techno, the main thing is the repetitive instrumental music produced by a DJ Set. The beat rate is almost 150 per minute and it depends on the style of techno. Performers often include other aspects like drum machine and synthesizers in their music. Juan Atkins is regarded as the originator of the genre. The techno genre has gained quite a bit of popularity and now there are lots of artists throughout the world.

- Juan Atkins: Being the originator of Techno, we have to include him. His first hit was “No UFOs” when he started his career as Model 500. He releases his music under names such as Cybotron, Infiniti, and Channel One etc. and notes that each of them has their own significance.
- Carl Cox: He is a British DJ and he is quite well known for his work in Techno. He started his career at a tender age of 15. He is still producing music and going on Techno tours. Some of his most loved Techno tracks are Avenger, Family Guy and I Want You.
- Daft Punk: This duo has been present quite a bit in the Electronic music scene of the current age. They have performed throughout the world and people love them for their uniqueness. Techno is a part of them but they also perform French house, disco, and other things. Their track ‘Starboy’ presented them with the first position of Billboard Hot 100.
