For the first time in Malaysia, Remy Cointreau International proudly hosts the “Storied Cocktail” Challenge, an iconic mixology competition presented by Mount Gay Rum. Malaysia’s most talented mixologists were challenged to create impactful premium cocktails using Mount Gay Rum, the world’s oldest, refined rum from Barbados.
Held at Havana in Changkat Bukit Bintang, the “Storied Cocktail” challenge saw a group of nine accomplished mixologists putting their expertise of Mount Gay history and flavour profiles of rums to use. The special event was held in conjunction with the first official visit to Malaysia by Mount Gay International Brand Ambassador, Miguel Smith, who also judged the contest alongside other industry experts, namely Richard Gillam of Remy Cointreau International and Joshua Ivanovic, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Cocktail Solutions.
Participants were given 8 minutes each to present a cocktail that evokes a unique time and place using Mount Gay rum – specifically the new Black Barrel – combined with an assortment of local and seasonal ingredients. Winners were selected based on the following criteria:
- Presentation / Story
- Visual appeal
- Knowledge of the product
- Overall impact
Angel Ng Ji, a mixologist from Hit & Mrs, won the challenge with her unique “Seventeen-O-Tea” cocktail, using her very own handcrafted vermouth.
